Falls prevention, osteoporosis, diabetes in the elderly
Dr Chillala graduated from Manchester University in 1993. She was appointed to Trafford in 2003 to develop the falls service and has successfully done so with a team of people helping to achieve this goal.
She now runs the falls screening service, the falls clinic and chairs the falls steering group. Within this remit she also sees osteoporosis patients and has developed Trafford's guidelines; she is also part of the regional guidelines group.
In association with Sister Bercik, specialist diabetes nurse for the elderly, Dr Chillala sees patients with diabetes and medical problems in a holistic way in a clinic held in the Diabetes Centre. She is clinical lead for rehabilitation.
Dr Chillala has a keen interest in education and training and is a track director for five registrars and part of the geriatric STSC. She was Royal College Tutor for three years and still maintains an interest in regional training issues. She has published work in the textbook of Diabetes in Old Age, the BGS compendium and has taken part in international research trials.
Dr Chillala is the North West representative of the English Council in the British Geriatrics Society and is also Secretary of the Special Interest Group in Diabetes.
