Biography

Mr Karim is a general obstetrician and gynaecologist, has sub-specialised in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery and joined Trafford as a Consultant Gynaecologist in June 2010. In addition to practising all aspects of general gynaecology, he has a special interest in minimally-invasive surgery. Most of his surgeries are performed laparoscopically including: salpingectomy; salpingotomy; ectopic pregnancy; adhesiolysis; ovarian cystectomy; oophorectomy; ablation and excision of endometriosis; myomectomy; and hysterectomy. Mr Karim also performs different uterine hysteroscopic surgeries including hysteroscopic resection of submucous fibroid and uterine septum, as well as different forms of endometrial ablation (EA) procedures as thermachoice (BEA), novasure (NEA) and endometrial resection (TCRE). He treats a large variety of gynaecological conditions including pelvic pain, infertility, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, tubal disease, pelvic adhesions and fibroids. Mr Karim also has a special interest in menstrual disorders, post-menopausal bleeding and menopause. He runs a day-case hysteroscopy clinic every Wednesday. Cervical, vaginal and vulval pathology are other areas of his special interest and he runs a colposcopy clinic every Tuesday which also includes vaginoscopy and vulvoscopy service. Mr Karim qualified from Alexandria University in Egypt in 1989, undertook his specialist training in gynaecology in the North West Denary and developed his special interest in minimally-invasive surgery in his final years of senior specialty training in Greater Manchester university hospitals. He has published widely on gynaecological minimally-invasive surgery.
