Patient Advice and Liaison Service

What is PALS?

As a patient, relative or carer sometimes you may need to turn to someone for on the spot help, advice and support. This is where the Patient Advice and Liaison Service comes in.

We provide confidential, on-the-spot advice and support, helping you sort out any concern you have about the care we provide, guiding you through the different services available from the NHS.

The Patient Advice and Liaison Service focuses on improving the service to NHS patients. The service aims to:

  • Advise and support patients, their families and carers
  • Provide information on NHS services
  • Listen to your concerns, suggestions or queries
  • Help sort out problems quickly on your behalf

We act independently when handling patient and family concerns, liaising with staff, managers and, where appropriate, relevant organisations, to negotiate immediate or prompt solutions. It necessary, we can also refer patients and families to specific local or national-based support agencies.

The Trafford Patient Advice and Liaison Service provides advice and support to patients their relatives and friends who access services provided by Trafford Healthcare NHS Trust.

The Service is confidential.

Formal complaints procedure

If you are unhappy with any aspect of your care, treatment or stay with us, we would always ask that you speak to the Ward Sister or Matron or contact PALS to give us the opportunity to help resolve any concerns you may have. However, you are entitled to make a formal complaint. There are leaflets on every ward, which explain how to make a complaint. Please ask a member of staff if you would like a leaflet.

We ask that you put your complaint in writing to:
