As a major provider of healthcare services to Manchester and beyond, the Trust is fully prepared to respond in the event of a major incident in Manchester. This ensures that we are ready to manage the emergency with minimal disruption to our normal services.
Working with national legislation and guidance such as the Civil Contingencies Act (2004) and the NHS Emergency Planning Guidance (2005) the Trust has detailed plans for responding to the increased demands that a major incident would make on our services, while continuing to provide care for existing patients.
It is also possible that emergencies may affect the services provided on Trust premises, for example disruption to the power supply. The Trust has a detailed Business Continuity Plan in place to deal with this.
The Trust trains staff in major incident
procedures and regularly rehearses for these incidents, altering
plans as required to improve our preparedness.
The Trust works with other Emergency Responders in Greater
Manchester to ensure that the multi-agency response to an incident
or emergency is undertaken appropriately & efficiently. This
work is coordinated by Greater Manchester Resilience.
Greater Manchester Resilience undertakes an
annual risk assessment of potential hazards & threats that
could occur within the county. This risk assessment outlines
priorities for emergency responders to plan and rehearse the
response to potential emergencies before they occur.
